A 34-year public safety veteran, Mr. Pecoraro is the Executive Director of the Illinois Association Chiefs of Police. Prior to assuming his duties as Executive Director, Mr. Pecoraro served as Deputy Director of the Administrative Services Division of the Illinois Department of Corrections and Chief of the Office of Communications where he oversaw all publishing protocols and press relations. From 1990 to 1999 he served as Special Assistant for Public Safety and Director of the Secretary of State Police and Bureau of Professional Standards.

 

Prior to his state appointments, Mr. Pecoraro served 8 years as the Chief Counsel for the Springfield Police Department and supervised the department's Legal Advisors Section. As a member of the Chicago Police Department from 1971 to 1984, he served in various assignments including the Research, Development and Data Systems Division and the Office of Legal Affairs.

 

He is past General Chairman of the Legal Officers Section of the International Association of Chiefs of Police and twice has been selected to serve as the International’s Parliamentarian.  He is an active member of the International’s Legislative Committee and Legal Officer’s Section.

 

He has lectured on a variety of public safety topics for the International Association of Chiefs of Police and is a member of the Association’s Center for Advanced Police Studies.  He has lectured at Northwestern University Traffic Institute, the Florida Institute for Police Training and Management, Virginia Department of Criminal Justice Services; the Illinois Police Training and Standards Board’s state certified training academies and Mobile Training Units, and the Illinois State Police Academy.   He has also served as the Chairman of the state Training Board’s Use of Force Policy Review Committee and as the Vice Chairman of the High Speed Pursuit Review Committee.

 

Mr. Pecoraro is a member of the Board of Trustees of the John Marshall Law School and serves as a faculty and founding member of the IIT-Chicago Kent Law School's Public Sector Labor Advisory Board and Conference.

 

Mr. Pecoraro has received numerous certifications in public safety studies and is a graduate of Roosevelt University with a BGSc. in Engineering Sciences, a J.D. from the John Marshall Law School and a graduate of the FBI National Law Institute.

 

He is a life member of both the Illinois and the International Association of Chiefs of Police.
